This is narrated by papa Josh... Several weeks ago, we were going to write a blog about how well Zach was developing; he was eating like a bear and gaining a good amount of weight; and was becoming extremely active, alert, etc. THEN THE STORM HIT. It started with some congestion (first doctor visit). That went away, or so we thought... A week later, he got pink eye (second doctor visit). A week later, he was grabbing his ears, and was acting irritable. He was diagnosed with an ear infection (third doctor visit). He was prescribed Amoxicillan. A few days later, he started to develop a cough, was extremely fatigued, was wheezing, did not want to eat, had a fever, and at times, seemed like he was gasping for air. He was diagnosed with RSV, or, Bronchiolitis (fourth doctor visit). Bronchiolitis is an infection that affects the airways that lead to the lungs. As the airways become inflamed, they swell and fill with mucus, making breathing difficult. At the fourth doctor visit, Zach had a chest x-ray to rule out pneumonia (which was not fun), and was given a breathing treatment (also not fun). He did not have pneumonia. The doctor prescribed an albuterol inhaler to help his breathing (boy was this hard to administer). We went to see Zach's pediatrician the following day (fifth doctor visit). We were told that Zach was very close to having to go to the hospital and that we needed to closely monitor him. THIS WAS NOT GOOD. The coughing seemed to be getting worse, with coughs lasting literally one minute. Zach's fever came back. Was Zach going to recover from this? As the days went by, we started to see some improvement. His wheezing decreased, his coughs decreased, his appetite was coming back, and he seemed happier. Then all of a sudden, we started to see significant changes. ZACH IS NOW OUT OF HIS MIND. He is extremely hiper, is eating like a mad man, reaching for everything, always wanting to play, and is sooooooooooooo happy. Oh, I forgot to mention that he now stands (of coure we hold his hands). We are so happy that Zach woke up from his coma (for a lack of a better word). After many nights of worrying, five doctor visits, and no sleep because of the coughs, we can now say that Zach really is a new man. (I think the inhaler had something to do with it). The good doctors at Urgent Care, Dr. T's guidance (Zach's pediatrician), Grandma & Grandpa Borenstein and Uncle Aaron's huge help with caring for Zachy, Randi staying home, and my calmness, all made it possible for Zach's recovery. Thank you all. Here are some pics that we took the past few days.

Recovery at South Lake - Feeding the Ducks
Trying to fatten him up with some guacamole. Our already underweight buddy lost at least a pound, maybe two.
So we don't want to speak too soon - but it appears buddy is doing better. We go to sleep last night expecting smooth sailing but instead we wake up to a crying Zach. He stayed up for two hours from 1-3 am. OF COURSE... he is teething again. His first upper middle tooth is breaking through.
