Another "step" in the right Direction

Zach learned how to use one of his toys over the weekend. Mom was so excited she dropped and broke her camera!

THE BIG 1

Zach had his first birthday this past weekend at the lagoon. Thanks to those who could make it.

A special thanks to Corner Bakery who could not get the food order straight. More thanks to Ralphs who sold us defective balloons. Now that I got that off my chest, Randi and I had a blast putting this together and it was exciting to see everyone help celebrate. Zach seemed to have a fun time up until cake time when he flipped out and got scared. But, no worries because the cake wound up all over my shirt. Randi refused to take him. It would be more cost-effective to ruin my shirt than hers. Anyway, it was a fun time. Next time, we won't buy so many sodas. Our fridge is still packed with cans.

The Story of Zachary David Shayne

It is 8:18 PM and exactly one year ago, our little Zachary was born. I sit here and write this post as i listen to him babble his way off to dreamland. It is a bittersweet moment. I hope I made the most of this first year and look forward to many more years filled with good health, laughter and happiness (and maybe shorter work days).

I found the document that I started writing the morning my water broke. It is not finished (in fact since Josh was the notetaker once he got to the hospital, he will be the one to finish the story. Here goes...

July 17, 2007

Well, I am sitting here typing like a crazy person before I go to the doctor. This could all be a false alarm but I wanted to write out a story in the event this is the real thing. Yesterday, I went to the doctor to find out that I was almost completely effaced and 2 cm dilated. I have been told on several occasions however, that like all of the other symptoms, could mean absolutely nothing or mean absolutely something. Dr. Wheeler however, seemed much more convinced that our little guy would be here soon. He never said how soon but he said be ready. Dr. Wheeler is very conservative. He has never said a word to us about being early, late or even telling us if he had any vacations planned around the time I was due. He has a very dry sense of humor and it was like pulling teeth to get any juicy information. Needless to say, we got excited by the upbeat nature of his voice and advice.
I woke up about 5:30 this morning feeling like my water was breaking. It was actually the lovely "plug" coming out instead. Josh had an appearance in Van Nuys this morning so I told him to go. The plug didn’t scare me. I was prepared for another few days of work even. But then, I tried to go back to sleep and about a half hour later, it really felt like my water was breaking. It was really leaking though - so I was confused. This happened about 6-8 times. It is now 8:05 and I am trying to decide what to do. I called the doctor’s office and they told me to go to the hospital. I feel amazing… our place is not clean so I am freaking out but other than that, I am excited. I thought he had a few more days in me. So, i showered, gathered my things and Allyson from work is going to come get me since Josh is not home. It is all kinda funny. I can not believe Josh is not here. It is sad but he will be here soon. I guess that is it for now. I will continue writing at the hospital. Can’t wait to meet the little guy!!

Here is our little bubba minutes after being born.

And today - 1 Year Old

You've come a long way - baby!

We had a great day today. I took a half day and took Zach swimming. Then, the three of us went to Chuck E Cheese. We came home and let Zachy devour a cake.

Happy 1st Birthday Zachary!

Dear Zachary,
You have brought so much joy and love to all of our lives. I can not remember a time without you in it. Your smile and laugh are contagious. We never thought we would be blessed with such a sweet, loving baby. We love you so much. We hope you have a very happy birthday.

I could not get a picture of him with the hat on so this will have to do.

And for all of you that will be asking me if he is walking yet, he is getting very close. We're at two steps and a lot of excitment at this point. This is the best proof I could get for now!

More birthday fun to share a little later!

Happy Anniversary!

Today, Josh and I celebrate our 3rd Anniversary. We actually met in 2001 on a blind date at my sorority formal.

We dated "long distance" for two years between Huntington Beach and Los Angeles.

We got engaged in the Bahamas and I moved to Orange County.

In 2005, we were married in Calabasas, CA.

And three years later, we celebrate and hope for many more years of happiness. Love you - Josh!!
